NEARTOWN ASSOCIATION (NTA) MEETING

Minutes
NTA President Jack Rose opened the meeting at 7:07 p.m. The July meeting’s minutes were presented by Jack and approved by the attendees.
Civic Association President’s Luncheon
Kathie Easterly will host the first of a series of luncheons to discuss ongoing issues and concerns of Neartown civic associations. The first lunch will be held on Tuesday, August 31st at 11:30 AM at La Tapatia on Richmond.
Neartown Superneighborhood Fundraiser
A fundraising dinner will be held on Thursday, September 30th at Rouge (812 Westheimer) from 7 – 10 PM. There will be a sit-down dinner, live music, dancing, and a silent auction. State Representative Martha Wong will be attending, and Mayor Bill White will be the honored guest. Tickets are $100 apiece. Invitations will be sent out in the next week or so.
Directions & Connections – Charting a path for your neighborhood will be held at the George R Brown Convention Center from 8 AM – 3 PM on Saturday, September 11th. A copy of the brochure is attached.
State representative Martha Wong gave a quick update on the status of school finance reform. Additionally, she told the group that Houston has received 310 million dollars from the state for recruitment of new medical talent. With federal and local matching funds, the total amount will be close to one million dollars. Her upcoming schedule includes attending a committee meeting on Texas Workman’s Compensation, as well as attending the Neartown Superneighborhood Fundraiser at the end of the month.
Claude Wynn introduced David Hawes who gave a recap of the management district they hope will be created in the next legislature. A copy of the presentation is attached.
A vote to approve the management district concept was approved by the attendees. A formal vote on the actual bill to be presented to the legislature will be voted on at a future meeting.
The PIP meeting for September will be on September 15, not the 17th as previously reported.
