NEARTOWN ASSOCIATION (NTA) MEETING

Minutes

NTA President Jack Rose opened the meeting at 7:02 p.m.

Police Store Front

The HPD Store Front located at 802 Westheimer, is changing its hours of operation from 24 hours per day to 6 AM to 10 PM due to city budget cuts. Currently, it is the only community storefront open for three full shifts.

September PIP Meeting

The September PIP meeting will be a general forum held at the Multi-Service Center at 1475 West Gray. It will be on September 17th from 7 – 8 PM.

2004 National Night Out

National Night Out will be celebrated across Neartown on Tuesday, August 3 from 6 – 9 PM. Any civic group wishing to list their meeting on the NTA website should send an email to the Webmaster.

Commercial Expansion of Business

Jack mentioned that pharmacy on Commonwealth and Nevada wants to expand their facilities. Jack asked if anyone knew what Civic Association they were in.

Transportation Update

Robin Holzer told the group of the creation of the Citizen’s Transportation Coalition. There will be a meeting on Wednesday, July 28th to discuss the regional transportation plan

Montrose Museum Management District

Claude Wynn and David Hawes will be presenting an overview of the management district being considered by Neartown and the Montrose Museum Business Alliance at the August Neartown meeting.

Neartown Super neighborhood

Jack introduced Kathie Easterly, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Neartown Super neighborhood. Kathie gave a little background as to her prior experience and said that there will be two major fundraisers for the super neighborhood for the upcoming year – a Fundraiser dinner at Rouge to be held on September 30th, and the possible re-emergence of the Westheimer Street Festival, to be held in conjunction with the Gay Pride Parade. Additional details to follow in future meetings.
