The staff at the Neartown Storefront wants to ensure that the storefront is meeting the needs of our neighborhood. To do that, we must reach as many citizens as we can. We want to make sure that you are aware of the resources available here at the storefront and also through the Central Division and the Entire Houston Police Department.

What is the Neartown Storefront?

The Storefront is a significant commitment of personnel and equipment from the HPD to ensure your safety and security. The staff and equipment consist of the following:

  • 1 Sergeant
  • 11 Police Officers
  • 1 Crisis Counselor
  • 3 Police Cars
  • 9 GT Avalanche Police Bikes
  • 9 PC's w/5 Printers

This staff covers four shifts across a seven day-a-week, 24 hour per day operation.

Criminal, Ordinance and Code Violation Investigations

This is where we focus the bulk of our effort at this storefront. The following is an overview of our capabilities:

Bike Patrol

We have 3 full time and 6 part time officers who patrol the area on bikes. This is often used as a high-visibility compliment to an on-going operation. The 3 full time officers patrol the parks.

Differential Response Tactics (DRT)

This effort is aimed at criminal violations that lend themselves to quality of life matters for the neighborhoods. They include a wide range of issues such as:

  • Trash violations - illegal dumping, dumpster violations, illegal sign placement, etc...
  • Illegal storage - vehicles left unattended in driveways, on the street or in yards
  • Right-of-way violations
  • Dangerous buildings, failure to secure building, illegal habitation, trespassing, etc...
  • High grass
  • Illegal parking - residential and commercial
  • Alleyway violations
  • Illegal vagrant activity
  • Illegal car shop/repair businesses.

Crisis Counselor

We have a full-time crisis counselor who assists patrol officers and citizens in criminal investigations. She is also available at the storefront Tuesday through Saturday, 8pm until 4am. You can leave a message any time.
